Hello!!

Hello and Welcome to my Website!

I am Ishita, a Costume and Textile enthusiast who is always curious to discover lesser known stories about textiles. I am passionate about Designing costumes for films and Live performances.

I have  a background in textiles and have studied Costume Design for Performance at London College of Fashion, UAL, London.

My passion for textiles has lead me to remote craft clusters in India  for documenting and researching the local textile and clothing traditions. These adventures have enlightened me about the power of  traditional clothing and their sustainable nature.

The sustainable initiative of Tailors Garage  where I attempt to tackle the issue of post consumer waste by using traditional clothing patterns has evolved through these journeys.

Today my work revolves around Telling stories of garments and weaving garments in stories. I am also actively engaged in  Design education where I  aspire to nurture young talent in the field of Design and create a positive change. I aim to inspire people to look at textiles & garments beyond their utilitarian purpose.

My key research interests are Indian textile traditions, Costumes, semiotics and Sustainability.

If you would like to know more about my work, collaborate or upcycle any garments write to me at kulkarniishita891@gmail.com
